The Kakatiyas ,King Rudra Pratap on the advice of a shepherd built the fort on a height of 480ft and named it Golconda Fort in 1143A.D.
King Krishna Dev handed over the fort to Quli Qutub Dynasty to Mohmmad Shah in 1363 A.D. who was from Bahamani Dynasty.
The Bahamani kings were in Golconda from 1363 to 1518A.D.
The Quli Qutub Dynasty made the permanent and well constructed fort under their rule. The Bahamani Governors later formed independent rule due to poor administration. They were:
1. Khasi Bureed in Bidar of Burred Shah Dynasty, 1492 to 1609 A.D
2. Fatheulla- Imadul Mulk in Berar of Imad Shahi Dynasty 1490 to 1527 A.D.
3.Ahmed Nizamul in Ahmadnagar of Nizam Shahi Dynasty, 1490 to 1663 A.D.
4.Yousuf Adil Shah in Bijapur of Adil Shahi Dynasty 1490 to 1686
5. Sultan Quli in Golconda of Qutub Shahi Dynasty 1518 to 1687.
Seven Kings ruled in Qutub Shahi Dynasty from 1518 A.D. to 1687 A.D.
The first invasion by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was in the year 1656A.D. during the rule of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shah. The second invasion lasted 8months in 1687 and Aurangzeb arrested the ruler and captured Golconda Fort
Qutub Shahi Tombs are located at 1.5kms from Golconda Fort in Hyderabad. There are 16 Tombs in total out of which 7 are from the royal family. The others Tombs are of the royal dancers(concubines), the Hakeem(doctor) etc.
